Wildlife World Zoo Gets New Arrivals

Posted in : Zoo News

(added last year!)

A new year means some new arrivals at the Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium. They might look like skunks with their black and white fur, but the new residents are actually colobus monkeys. The pair arrived at the zoo a few weeks ago. These African monkeys have strong stomachs like goats so they can eat and digest just about anything.

Their black and white fur is extra long because it serves a special purpose. Josh Jarnagin with Wildlife World Zoo told CBS 5 the fur actually acts as a parachute for the monkeys as they jump around and softens their landings. The zoo also just welcomed a group of mountain coatimundi or coati. They come from the jungles of Venezuela, Ecuador and Columbia, they're cousins of the raccoon.
