An orphaned dolphin is getting a home at the Indianapolis Zoo. The zoo says it's been selected as the new home for 6-month-old Taz. The zoo says Taz is an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin that was found stranded Jan. 13 on a sandbar off Sanibel Island, Fla. The zoo says Taz wouldn't have been able to learn the social skills to survive in the wild without parents to guide him.

The zoo says the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service chose the Indianapolis zoo because of its population of adult females who can help socialize him. Zoo Vice President Rob Shumaker says the social dynamics of the zoo's dolphin group "will provide the opportunity for Taz to become a member of a real dolphin family.
