WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Palm Beach Zoo has three new baby tigers. Zoo officials say a Malayan tiger named Berapi gave birth to the cubs late Thursday. Palm Beach Zoo President and CEO Terry Maple says it's just the second Malayan tiger litter born in an American zoo this year. Zoo workers are keeping their distance to avoid spooking the new mother. It could be as long as two months before the infants are given a checkup. Until then, officials say they'll let Berapi take care of the newborns. They say she's doing a wonderful job, so far. With the new tigers, zoo officials are hoping to raise $5 million for a new tiger exhibit. It will be home to Berapi, her mate Rimba, and the new cubs.
