Four White Lion Cubs born in Captivity

Jurques, France:  Celebrations at the French zoo were at peak when the news of four white lion cubs born in captivity  was officially made public on May 20, 2007.

The recent addition of three female and one male white lion cubs born to an adult white lioness Nyala, make up a total of 30 white lions that are presently living in the captivity world. Since the new born cubs’ mother showed lack of parenting vigor at their birth, the cubs had to be taken away and removed to other place for their feeding and upbringing needs.
Director of the Jurques Zoological Park, Bernadette Oury, told the AFP news service, “The four cubs, each weighing in at 3.3 pounds are in full health, and we are thrilled,"

Note:  The White lions species native to South Africa is not something very rare. In fact the unusual white color in these lion species is the result of a recessive gene that gives them the snowy white color of their coats instead of the golden tawny color.
